Formula Drift

Formula Drift® is the leading series for the sport of professional drifting in North America.  The series allows fans to view extreme car control close-up as their favorite drivers slide inches from one-another, many times nearly touching immovable objects such as racetrack walls.

Also starring in this series are the high-horsepower tuner cars and their ultra-high performance tires.  In 2007, Toyo’s Proxes® R1R™ extreme performance tire won the Formula Drift Championship with Tanner Foust piloting his Rockstar® Energy Drink /AEM®/Toyo Tires® Nissan 350Z.  Foust drives for Papadakis Racing, owned by long-time Team Toyo® member, Stephan Papadakis.  A legend of sport compact drag racing and a celebrity in drifting, Papadakis drives the Rockstar/AEM/Toyo Tires Honda S2000 which has starred in recent Honda motorsports commercials.

Ken Gushi, known as “The Future” or “The Gush”, has been a member of Team Toyo Drift beginning with the 2005 season.  During that year, Gushi finished third overall in the championship standings and proved that the Proxes® T1R™ is a front-running ultra-high performance tire.  In 2008, Gushi and Scion unveiled the all-new RS*R Scion tC which boasts a radical transformation from front- to rear-wheel-drive, with more than 400-horsepower on tap to drive his Proxes R1R tires.  This powerful combination gives the sport’s young star a whole new look coming into this season.

New to Team Toyo Drift in 2008 is Michihiro Takatori who drives the Super Autobacs/Toyo Tires R34 Nissan Skyline.  This Japanese driver brings his drifting talent to American shores using Toyo’s Proxes R1R, the tire that also won the 2007 D1 GP Japan championship.
