The Sports Car Club of America, Inc. (SCCA®) is founded on grassroots motorsports and boasts the nation’s most active membership participation with over 60,000 members and 112-regional chapters. The car club sanctions three major forms of amateur competition including road racing, solo and rally. The heart of the club is road racing, offering competitors to earn either a regional or national license. Front-running nationally licensed competitors have the opportunity to compete annually in an event called the SCCA National Championship Runoffs® where some 700-competitors converge to race in their respective car classes. With several classes available to racers in the SCCA, the Runoffs event spans several days of competition. Toyo’s Proxes RA1™ has been the standard for amateur road racers (club racers) because of its race winning performance and consistency. Amateurs find the RA1 cost effective as it has a reputation for durability. In the beginning of 2006, the SCCA announced that the Proxes RA1 would be the “Exclusive Tire for the SCCA Club Racing Spec Miata class” in National Competition from 2006 through 2008. More than 4,200-miles of track testing at Heartland Park Topeka were conducted by the SCCA to rate D.O.T.-legal competition tires submitted by a variety of tire brands. The four-day test used an assortment of Mazda Miata racecars and was based on parameters which included durability, consistency, drivability and performance. Ultimately, Toyo’s Proxes RA1 came out on top. To learn more about the SCCA and their activities held nationwide, log on to http://www.scca.com/.
